Update: October 8, 1996
I finally got my chance to play with the Stocker after Billy Nees had squeezed
another two seconds out of it. I had taken the race car for testing this past
Friday Night, and since we had left the Stocker at the track, it too was at my
disposal. I ended up driving both cars. I won the NHRA class with the 'real'
race car, and drove the Stocker in the street class. What follows is a series
of time slips, time trials denoted by a 'Q#' and 'E#'s being elimination rounds.
r/t 60' E.T.
Q1 .469 2.557 18.487 @ 74.36 mph - Warmup run. Can't leave like I used to!
Q2 .587 2.592 18.369 @ 75.47 mph - Left like the race car. Not too bad...
Q3 .600 2.568 18.370 @ 75.13 mph - Got a quick tree.
Q4 .527 2.611 18.457 @ 75.27 mph - It actually spun a little!
Q5 .535 2.559 18.302 @ 75.60 mph - Car likes to run hot.
E1 .596 2.615 18.385 on 18.36 dial vs .575, -.010 under
E2 .533 2.606 18.363 on 18.33 dial vs .569, +.050 over. Hit 75.91 mph!
E3 .534 2.561 18.485 on 18.33 dial vs .554, +.477 over. On the brakes.
E4 .541 2.598 18.275 on 18.25 dial vs .567, -.082 under. Dumped him.
E5 .541 2.593 18.294 on 18.23 dial vs .559, +.053 over. Lost by .008!
All runs were made shifting at 5000. Trans shifts at 5500. It goes through
the traps about 5100 in second gear. Also of note, the converter now stalls
at 2700 rpm since Billy found the horsepower and torque in the motor.
