Successful Debut for
New Duck Tape Volare Stocker
Once again, Matt Zapp carded a dead-on 10.904 right off the trailer in his deadly '66 Chevelle. He went three rounds in Saturday's Hot Rod Shootout, but red-lighted in round one on Sunday. He still leads IHRA Div. 3 Hot Rod points, and is Top 10 in the World. Zapp Carries Duck Tape to Divisional Win, Points Lead May 2, 2005
Zapp defeated defending Div. 1 Champion Jon Jablonski in the opening round when Jablonski ran out by .001 seconds. That set the tone for the event. In the finals, Zapp got the win light early against local standout Stan Schmale, who red-lighted by .003. "It was a very fortunate weekend," claimed Zapp. The win, coupled with the runner-up finish at Mooresville, catapults Zapp into 4th in the World, and he leads the IHRA Div. 3 Hot Rod point standings by a wide margin over Bitsy Satterly.

Zapp
only had to wait one day before seeing another final round, this time
in his '66 Chevelle. He red-lighted in the final by just .009

deadly, allowing Zapp to put away defending Hot Rod World Champion Ed
Pauley, as well as 3rd ranked John Swink, en route to the finals.
The Chevelle is sponsored by Duck Tape brand duct tape, Loctite,
K&N Filters, Mickey Thompson Tires, Hupertz Racing Engines, APD

Zapp
earned his Top Dragster license Saturday morning in his '04 Invincible
chassis dragster, breezed through his qualifying runs, and just eight
hours later found himself in his first final round. Zapp took
runner-up in the Top Dragster/Top Sportsman Combo, defeating the likes
of superstars Steve Furr and Matt Cook along the way. "This
car likes firsts," said Zapp. The car debuted at Grand Bend
last season with Marco Abruzzi at the helm, with a Top Dragster win.
"It's fast. It's just really fast. Driving two cars
kept me so busy that all I could think about was how fun it was
running this fast!" The Top Dragster is supported by
Abruzzi Racing Transmissions, Invincible Performance, Huntsville
Engines, Reed Plumbing, Dart, Holley, Coastal Coatings, K&N

Duck Tape Racing Starts Championship Pursuit at San Antonio
March
28, 2005
Madison,
Ohio - IHRA opens its national event season April 1-2, 2005
at San Antonio Raceway, in Marion, Texas. It will also be the
first event of the season for Duck Tape Racing's Michael Beard, who
hopes to regain his Stock World Championship title, earned in 2003.
"San
Antonio is a great way to start the year," said Beard.
"They're running Class Eliminations for both Stock and Super
Stock, where the contingency money up for grabs from great companies
like Comp Cams and Mickey Thompson will help offset the expenses of
the long drive to Texas from Ohio. I'm fortunate to be driving
for Terry Knott and Adger Smith again this year, so we'll have two
class-winning, record setting cars on the track. It would be a
dream come true to be able to double-up!
"Terry's
Dart Sport ran nearly identical passes every run at the Farmington
Pro-Am, recently," continued Beard, "and Adger's
six-cylinder Camaro is more than capable of 9-second runs to put us in
the number one qualifying position. With the Biondo Five-Oh
long-throw button in the Super Stocker, I think the two cars will
react very similarly, so it should be an easy transition from one car
to the other. I'm very excited about this weekend, and
optimistic."
The other
half of the team, Matt Zapp, hopes to continue his assault in the Mr.
Gasket Pro-Am Tour the following weekend, April 8-10, in Mooresville,
NC, with his potent Hot Rod '66 Chevelle.
The team
is backed by Duck Tape brand duct tape and Loctite, part of Henkel
Consumer Adhesives, with additional support from Mickey Thompson
Tires, K&N Filters, Biondo Racing Products, AutoShack
Transmissions, Sloan Racing Engines, Abruzzi Racing Transmissions,
Holley, Comp Cams, Harland Sharp, AutoMeter, Coastal Coating Services,
Invincible Performance, APD, Davis Race Cars, Adger Smith Performance
Engines, and Staging Light Graphics.
Loctite Camaro Scores Semi at NSCA Season Opener
Duck Flies South for the Winter
With his Hupertz Engineering BBC under the hood, APD Carb, K&N Filters straightening the flow, Abruzzi Racing Transmission shifting the gears, and fresh Mickey Thompson rubber, the 2003 Motor City Nationals winner exudes the confidence that comes from having the best equipment. The season opener at Immokalee also heralds the new season for God Speed Ministries. Zapp was chosen as the IHRA Division 3 Chaplain for God Speed. He'll have the opportunity to meet Division 2 Chaplain Joe Sannutti. It's just one more reason the Immokalee double-header will be a great race! One weekend, two races, and two chaplains! Please join your fellow racers at the God Speed Ministries services Sunday morning for a fresh start, and enjoy the camaraderie! Duck Tape Racing Announces 2005 Team
For the 2005 season, Zapp can be found behind the wheel of a new ’66 Chevelle running HURST Hot Rod. The car actually debuted at Rockingham Dragway during the 2004 Bethesda Softworks IHRA World Finals. Although Zapp qualified fourth with a 10.902 pass, mechanical troubles ended his weekend early with a first round exit. The Chevelle has since been repaired and tested. Thanks to the likes of Abruzzi Racing Transmissions and BTE, a new Abruzzi powerglide transmission and BTE torque converter have been installed.
Additional support for Team Duck Tape returns in 2005 with help from Mickey Thompson Performance Tires, K & N Performance Filters, Abruzzi Racing Transmissions, Sloan Racing Engines, Auto Shack Transmissions, Jason Davis Racecars, Biondo Racing Products, APD Fuel Systems, Adger Smith’s Performance Engines, Auto Meter Gauges, Hupertz Racing Engines, Torco’s CompetitionPlus.com, Zapp Signs, and Staging Light Graphic Design.
