Beard Drives Duck Tape Dart To Maryland Final
September 21, 2005

Successful Debut for New Duck Tape Volare Stocker
June 7, 2005

Martin, Mich. - Michael Beard and Terry Knott recently purchased an I/CM '80 Volare, which Terry has been campaigning off and on for Ross Family Racing the past two years.  Beard slipped behind the wheel for his first points race with the Volare at US131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Mich., June 4-6, 2005.  With some luck on his side, he scored a runner-up in the Saturday Night Stock/Super Stock Shootout, and followed it up with a semifinal in Sunday's Mr. Gasket Pro-Am event.  The late round finish vaults Beard into 3rd in IHRA Div. 1 Stock points.

Once again, Matt Zapp carded a dead-on 10.904 right off the trailer in his deadly '66 Chevelle.  He went three rounds in Saturday's Hot Rod Shootout, but red-lighted in round one on Sunday.  He still leads IHRA Div. 3 Hot Rod points, and is Top 10 in the World.

Zapp Carries Duck Tape to Divisional Win, Points Lead
May 2, 2005

Hamilton, Ohio - Duck Tape brand duct tape is always on a roll, and Matt Zapp is rolling right along with it.  Tri-State Dragway played host to the IHRA Div. 3 Mr. Gasket Pro-Am season opener April 30-May1, 2005, and Zapp's '66 Chevelle proved deadly once again.  He got down to the final eight cars in the Saturday night shootout, and sealed the deal on Sunday by winning Hot Rod to earn his first Pro-Am Iron Man trophy.

Zapp defeated defending Div. 1 Champion Jon Jablonski in the opening round when Jablonski ran out by .001 seconds.  That set the tone for the event.  In the finals, Zapp got the win light early against local standout Stan Schmale, who red-lighted by .003.  "It was a very fortunate weekend," claimed Zapp.

The win, coupled with the runner-up finish at Mooresville, catapults Zapp into 4th in the World, and he leads the IHRA Div. 3 Hot Rod point standings by a wide margin over Bitsy Satterly.

Double Duck Double-Up
April 11, 2005

Madison, Ohio - The floodgates have opened on the 2005 Hooters IHRA Racing Series and the Mr. Gasket Pro-Am Tour for the Duck Tape brand duct tape racing team of Matt Zapp and Michael Beard.  Beard began his national event tour at San Antonio, Texas, April 1-2, and Zapp continued his divisional tour in Mooresville, NC, April 8-10. Zapp earned his Top Dragster license Saturday morning in his '04 Invincible chassis dragster, breezed through his qualifying runs, and just eight hours later found himself in his first final round.  Zapp took runner-up in the Top Dragster/Top Sportsman Combo, defeating the likes of superstars Steve Furr and Matt Cook along the way.  "This car likes firsts," said Zapp.  The car debuted at Grand Bend last season with Marco Abruzzi at the helm, with a Top Dragster win.  "It's fast.  It's just really fast.  Driving two cars kept me so busy that all I could think about was how fun it was running this fast!"  The Top Dragster is supported by Abruzzi Racing Transmissions, Invincible Performance, Huntsville Engines, Reed Plumbing, Dart, Holley, Coastal Coatings, K&N Filters, and Duck Tape brand duct tape.

Zapp only had to wait one day before seeing another final round, this time in his '66 Chevelle.  He red-lighted in the final by just .009 seconds to winner David Lincoln.  The Chevelle was absolutely deadly, allowing Zapp to put away defending Hot Rod World Champion Ed Pauley, as well as 3rd ranked John Swink, en route to the finals.  The Chevelle is sponsored by Duck Tape brand duct tape, Loctite, K&N Filters, Mickey Thompson Tires, Hupertz Racing Engines, APD Carburetors, Davis Race Cars, AutoMeter, and Coastal Coatings.

"This was one the best weekends I've had with my Dad in a long time," claimed Zapp.  Bob Zapp crewed on both cars throughout the weekend.  "I couldn't have done it without him.  We're both exhausted, but it was worth every minute!"

The second annual Avon Heritage Duct Tape Festival kicks off June 17, 2005, just in time to celebrate Father’s Day. The festival will be an all-weekend event starting Friday at 4:00 p.m. at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Avon, Ohio.

From sculptures and fashion to games and a parade, everything at the festival will revolve around duct tape. Festival attendees will be able to make duct tape crafts, like roses and wallets, with professional duct tape sculptor, Todd Scott and duct tape crafter and author, Ellie Schiedermayer.

Henkel Consumer Adhesives, marketer of Duck brand duct tape, will celebrate the sticky stuff with the display of numerous of larger-than-life duct tape sculptures created by local artists. As the perfect celebration for Father’s Day weekend, the Avon Heritage Duct Tape Festival not only features dad’s favorite fix-all, but also includes an antique car and truck show, a “Duct Tape Dad of the Year” contest, and all the classic fair food and rides which make festivals such a great time. Duck Tape Racing Starts Championship Pursuit at San Antonio

March 28, 2005

Madison, Ohio -  IHRA opens its national event season April 1-2, 2005 at San Antonio Raceway, in Marion, Texas.  It will also be the first event of the season for Duck Tape Racing's Michael Beard, who hopes to regain his Stock World Championship title, earned in 2003.

"San Antonio is a great way to start the year," said Beard.  "They're running Class Eliminations for both Stock and Super Stock, where the contingency money up for grabs from great companies like Comp Cams and Mickey Thompson will help offset the expenses of the long drive to Texas from Ohio.  I'm fortunate to be driving for Terry Knott and Adger Smith again this year, so we'll have two class-winning, record setting cars on the track.  It would be a dream come true to be able to double-up!

"Terry's Dart Sport ran nearly identical passes every run at the Farmington Pro-Am, recently," continued Beard, "and Adger's six-cylinder Camaro is more than capable of 9-second runs to put us in the number one qualifying position.  With the Biondo Five-Oh long-throw button in the Super Stocker, I think the two cars will react very similarly, so it should be an easy transition from one car to the other.  I'm very excited about this weekend, and optimistic."

The other half of the team, Matt Zapp, hopes to continue his assault in the Mr. Gasket Pro-Am Tour the following weekend, April 8-10, in Mooresville, NC, with his potent Hot Rod '66 Chevelle.

The team is backed by Duck Tape brand duct tape and Loctite, part of Henkel Consumer Adhesives, with additional support from Mickey Thompson Tires, K&N Filters, Biondo Racing Products, AutoShack Transmissions, Sloan Racing Engines, Abruzzi Racing Transmissions, Holley, Comp Cams, Harland Sharp, AutoMeter, Coastal Coating Services, Invincible Performance, APD, Davis Race Cars, Adger Smith Performance Engines, and Staging Light Graphics.

Loctite Camaro Scores Semi at NSCA Season Opener
March 13, 2005

Bella Rose, LA - Adger Smith had the Loctite/Duck Super Stock '86 Camaro out at the NSCA season opener at No Problem Raceway in Belle Rose, LA, March 12-13, 2005.  While the NSCA (National Street Car Association) was founded on street-legal cars, they have opened up their ranks this season with the addition of the same Stock and Super Stock categories that we follow on the IHRA circuit. Adger qualified 2nd and said that the pole would've been his but for a converter change that slowed the car.  He made it to the semifinals in eliminations.  He had a great deal of praise for the Biondo Racing Products "Five-Oh" long-throw button, that made his quick-reacting car much easier to drive on the starting line.

Duck Flies South for the Winter
February 10, 2005

Madison, Ohio - The Duck Tape brand duct tape team's Hot Rod Chevelle recently received its fresh lettering for the 2005 season, and driver Matt Zapp is getting a head start in the running for the World Championship.  The Duck is literally flying south to IHRA Division 2's Mr. Gasket Pro-Am Tour double-header season opener, in Immokalee, Fla., this weekend, February 11-13, 2005.

With his Hupertz Engineering BBC under the hood, APD Carb, K&N Filters straightening the flow, Abruzzi Racing Transmission shifting the gears, and fresh Mickey Thompson rubber, the 2003 Motor City Nationals winner exudes the confidence that comes from having the best equipment.

The season opener at Immokalee also heralds the new season for God Speed Ministries.  Zapp was chosen as the IHRA Division 3 Chaplain for God Speed.  He'll have the opportunity to meet Division 2 Chaplain Joe Sannutti.  It's just one more reason the Immokalee double-header will be a great race!  One weekend, two races, and two chaplains!  Please join your fellow racers at the God Speed Ministries services Sunday morning for a fresh start, and enjoy the camaraderie!

Duck Tape Racing Announces 2005 Team

Madison, Ohio - The familiar Duck Tape brand duct tape logo will again appear on all cars driven by Michael Beard and Matthew Zapp of Madison, Ohio.

For the 2005 season, Zapp can be found behind the wheel of a new ’66 Chevelle running HURST Hot Rod. The car actually debuted at Rockingham Dragway during the 2004 Bethesda Softworks IHRA World Finals. Although Zapp qualified fourth with a 10.902 pass, mechanical troubles ended his weekend early with a first round exit.

The Chevelle has since been repaired and tested. Thanks to the likes of Abruzzi Racing Transmissions and BTE, a new Abruzzi powerglide transmission and BTE torque converter have been installed.

Beard will continue to drive Terry Knott’s World Champion ’73 Dart Sport in HAYS Stock, while they begin work on a crate motor ’71 Duster, also for Stock. In addition, a new ’95 S-10 pick-up will be completed late spring. The truck will compete in ACCEL DFI Super Stock with primary driving duties falling upon the shoulders of Beard. Primary sponsorship is still available for the new S-10, whose buildup is being chronicled on Torco’s CompetitionPlus.com.

Team Duck Tape will participate in several displays throughout the season, including the second annual Avon Heritage Duct Tape Festival, in Avon, Ohio, which kicks off June 17, 2005.

Additional support for Team Duck Tape returns in 2005 with help from Mickey Thompson Performance Tires, K & N Performance Filters, Abruzzi Racing Transmissions, Sloan Racing Engines, Auto Shack Transmissions, Jason Davis Racecars, Biondo Racing Products, APD Fuel Systems, Adger Smith’s Performance Engines, Auto Meter Gauges, Hupertz Racing Engines, Torco’s CompetitionPlus.com, Zapp Signs, and Staging Light Graphic Design.
